Charlie Parker for guitar - lick #008
During february 2024 I transcribed my favourite licks from 10 Charlie Parker tunes and present you what I've found. As a blues-player this is a one year lasting experiment to see how my playing will transform by practicing these ideas regularly.

Phil X - Highway Star Arpeggios (tab)

just a little transcription from Phil X' amazing alternate picked arpeggios over Deep Purple's Highway Star. Adjust the fingering to your personal preference - for some people with smaller hands the stretch with the 3rd finger might feel awkward - take the 4th finger instead.
The lick Stevie Ray Vaughan played once in his life-time

Here are some sounds from one of the cheapest dual overdrive pedals on the market. Don't let the price fool you since you get serious tones out of this box. Harley Benton surpassed themselves with this one.

nice lick
Damn, Quilter should be payin' ya!
haha - they don't but I enjoy their amps a lot - that's motivation enough.
Wow! Scorching solo!! 😮
Thanx - glad you enjoyed it. 😃
Right on, right on!
I tried, I tried 😄
Not very convincing…and the low E string overdrive is ratty sounding.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.
great
I discover Jeef Healey after seing Roadhouse , i love his playing , do searchs , and find your channel ! So happy of this live blues licks series . So much of my favorites guitarist, except Mick Taylor maybe ! Thank you for your jobs, lets rock
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and appreciating my work. I have not even considered Mick Taylor yet and focussed more on the usual suspects. Unfortunately YT makes it hard to publish some original footage for this series due to copyright restrictions.
Good job ,giddar freak!!
Nice Job guys🎉
Agree!

Thanks a lot for the transcription!
Thanks for watching!
is it just me or is there no audio?
It's just you - check your audio-devices. Audio is definitively there.
ah it was my audio sorry about that 😅
@@jimmysaville1952 : lol - no problem - have a nice evening.
Sehr schönes Lied ❤
Danke Dir - wünsche Dir ein tolles neues Jahr 2024
@@DizzyKrissi für dich auch. Danke
Sounds killer... just saved to try it during my practice time.... thanks for share it with TABs
Appreciated - have fun and a merry x-mas.
Thank you for a methodical and thorough demonstration. Too many demos can't seem to get it right like you have here! Have you tried the Sidecar EQ/drive pedal of theirs?
Thank you! No, I've not yet tried the sidecar but recently got the "Double Agent" during Cyber-Week. It's ok for what it is and does its job. I also have the "Evil Twin" which is a really good pedal.
Two things I've never been able to do: 1. Ice skate 2. Play the Blues. Maybe I just need the right teacher (I'd love to do both).
In regards to ice skating I won't be able to help you but I hope you find some stuff to improve/learn the blues here. A good teacher is the way to go.
Alvin Lee had a few...
I like it!
nice job :)
danke an den kollegen und klasse musiker krissi... für den coolen content hier...
Great lick dude ;D !! btw, I see you play lots of SRV, mind making or do u have one where you go a bit more in depth over his vibrato?
Thanks for your comment - I never thought about that. He uses the same vibrato Eric Clapton uses - not touching the neck with his palm and moving the whole arm to get a very controlled vibrato while holding his hands stiffly.
You mean "Eric Johnson's cascading pentatonics"
lol - in the video he tells everyone that he's got the idea from Eric Johnson - but since he shows his version of this technique I decided to take his name 😁
Great tutorial man! Thanks!🔥
Where are the double stops?
Sure you know the definition of a "double stop"???
Klingt rund 😊
lol - moin Olli!!!!
Den kannte ich noch gar nicht. Interessantes Konzept. Vor allem mit dem FRFR-Mode . .
These 32 licks and explanations are the best I've seen. Great job.
Solo 2 please
fantastic love you
thanks - love goes back to you
Thanks for posting this.
You are awesome! I'm a 67 year old beginner guitarist, thank you for sharing, I'm very grateful!
Wow - Brenda - this is great - it is never to late to start playing an instrument. I wish you an awesome musical journey. Thanks for checking out my channel.
Least that's going to be the correct intro
This was the intention. Did you expect more?
@@DizzyKrissi no, you see so many guitar tutorials on it and they are all different. Least you know, Don Felder tutorial, that it .😂👍
how do i find that backtrack please !!!
This is no backing track - just a simple drum pattern. You e.g. can create simple drums online with "drumbit".
@@DizzyKrissi thank you!
Interessanter Ansatz . . .
You got some more Jimi licks with tabs? How about Allman Bros, Rory Gallagher, Frank Marino, Gary Moore? NO Clapton, please no
I got some Gary Moore - just check out the play list. Thanks for your feedback
You got some more Jimi style with free tabs? How about Duane and Dickey from Allman Bros, Rory Gallagher, Frank Marino, Gary Moore? If so thanks!
Why would you put so much text over the one spot in the video where you really need to pay attention to?
I guess you cared more about his left hand fingerings? I included them in the tabs - just like the picking direction so you don't have to miss a thing. I am sorry if you feel uncomfortable with the design decision. Merry x-mas.
@@DizzyKrissi I have found the secret to really being able to nail the EJ/JB cascading pentatonics sound is in the minute details of the picking hand. Like the Troy Grady Cracking the Code Series - very specific and deliberate pick angle, when and how you change strings amid the run, etc. I have the fretting hand speed and accuracy down, just can't get the rapid fire picking style down yet. I do see the upstroke/downstroke notations on the tab. I will take a closer look. Sorry if my comment sounded snappy. Merry Xmas to you as well!
PS, the more I dig into your channel, the more I DIG your channel! :D
@@DanielBrophyMusic : Daniel, it may also be that my channel needs some time to get accustomed to!? Merry x-mas for you, too!
Just subscribed, lot of cool stuff you have here! Tks
Hey Louis - glad you found something useful here.
i can't stop playing this!
Glad you like it - Jeff played really interesting stuff. Did you know that he also played trumpet in a swing-band?
these are so good man keep it up!
use 9 gauge strings and these 1.5+ bends won't bust so many strings and much easier
I used to play with 9 gauge strings but every show I broke one. After changing to 10 gauge I rarely break a string.
How does he do the little abrasive pop sound at the end?
I just hear him hitting the strings harder on the last note.
I bought one for my bassguitar (jazzbass) and it's awesome! 😍 All I had to do is switch the toggle to hot and it's exactly what I was after. The warm setting and the stacked modes don't work for bass, so I guess they should have labelled the overdrive toggle guitar and bass 😅
glad it works for you - I only tested the pedal with stratocasters so far. Cheers
Knob settings?
61 amp setting. Set the eq to your liking. Gain is nearly maxed out and limiter around 3 quarters up. I used the neck pickup of my Player Plus Stratocaster (Noiseless Pickups).
Brilliant! Only just noticed the Theremin too
You are that guy with that excellent british humour.
@@DizzyKrissi Daft, you mean! But thank you and nice to ‘meet’ you. You’re all incredibly talented and the song is fantastic👍
Wouldn't say it's "the fastest" but it's certainly one of them. There are ones just as fast, if not faster like the lick he plays on Done Lost Your Good Thing Now. You can find the video on RUclips called (Stevie Ray Vaughan - You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now (Live, from "Accolades" album) 2:20. There is also the lick he plays on the song Lenny at the El Mocambo 7:12 :)
At least it feels like he's trying. There is also an amazing lick on "Texas Flood" played at the El Mocambo. I've transcribed it 2 years ago. Maybe it is something I will soon include to this series. But it will take some practice to demo it. Even Anthony from "Texas Blues Alley" has trouble with this very special lick.
Excelente!!!!
